about mic in hand

Mic in Hand is a partnership between Kent Valentine and Sam Bowring, two young comics based in Sydney. Formed in 2003, the aims of MIH are to provide new performance opportunities for 'open mic'ers' - new comics looking for stage time. In Sydney there are an abundance of open mic'ers and comparatively few open mic venues, making an industry that is traditionally hard to crack even more so.

In June 2003, MIH opened a regular Thursday room at the Friend in Hand Hotel in Glebe to address this problem. The room took off immediately with a sell out opening night, and continues to this day with strong crowds and a reputation for being one of the friendliest and most supportive open mic rooms in Australia - as well as a great night out!

In June 2004, MIH followed up on its success by opening Tuesdays at the Kurrajong Hotel in Erskineville. This is also an open mic night, set in a charming art deco pub with a regular friendly crowd and ... get this ... it's free!

Both rooms also feature professional comics, who have included: Wil Anderson, Sarah Kendell, Charlie Pickering, Justin Hamilton, Akmahl Saleh, Mick Meredith, Dave Callan, Gary Eck, Anthony Mir, Subby Valentine, Dave Williams, Chris Franklin, and many more.

Details of both rooms can be found on the venues page.
